More than three years ago the office staff, school nurse and principal at the Long Hill School made a pact to take the money spent on gifts for each other and use it to make a better Christmas for some of their families.
What started as a small deed developed into a brighter Christmas for more than 10 families this year. In addition to the original group, staff and others joined, as more than $600 was collected. Long Hill "elves" shopped, sorted and wrapped piles of presents consisting of books, toys, art supplies, accessories and clothing for the families they knew could use a better Christmas.
The week before Christmas more than 100 presents were ready for delivery and the mission was accomplished. In addition to this, Long Hill also had a caring and sharing tree which provided donations from the children of the school to support area charities.
Staff also held "dress down" days to assist in providing money for local support centers.
