Kenneth David Higgins

Kenneth David Higgins, 83, of Monroe, formerly of Bridgeport and Shelton, died Jan. 27, at The Jewish Home for the Elderly, Fairfield, surrounded by his wife and daughter, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was the husband of Beverly Lillian Brown for 60 years.

Son of the late Percy and Daisy Higgins, he was born May 23, 1928 and raised in Bridgeport.

Mr. Higgins graduated from Central High School, and attended the University of Bridgeport, for his engineering background. He moved to Foster Square where he began his life with his wife and shortly thereafter moved to Shelton to start his family of four children. He then resided in Monroe where his children continued their education.

Mr. Higgins worked for manufacturing companies in Bridgeport for many years and retired from Risdon Corporation, Danbury.

Kenneth was a family man who wanted his family together at all holiday gatherings with mom’s cooking and baking; especially her chocolate chip cookies, his family said.

His interests included family camping vacations every year; his photography business, Photographically Yours; gardening, and sailing on the Sound. He also enjoyed football and was a Giants fan and an avid Yankee fan. He loved vacationing at the Cape with his wife, and going to craft fairs, sightseeing foliage every fall, and just being with his best friend and partner, his wife Beverly, his family said.

Ken enjoyed reading; especially the Reader’s Digest, Bridgeport Post, and the Times magazine. Photography was a must have magazine for it was his true love of life.

Besides his wife, survivors include two daughters, Bonnie Lee Managano of Pembroke Pines, Fla., Terri Roxanne Higgins of Monroe; two sons, David Keith Higgins and lifelong partner, Laura Collins of Clinton, John Scott Higgins and his wife, Francine of Stratford; brother-in-law, Blair Brown and wife, Pat of Brunswick, Maine;

Also his cousin, Joyce Opel and husband, Danny Baus; a nephew, Kert Brown and wife, Amy; two nieces, Yvette Brown and husband, Lendall Alexander of Harpswell, Maine, Lori Brown and husband, Stephen York of Litchfield, Maine; his grandchildren, Melissa Dymerski, Janice Santanelli, Dr. Anthony Mangano, Stanley Backel; great-grandchildren, Max, Rose and Sam Dymerski and many friends.

Visiting hours are Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012 8:30-9:30 a.m., Spadaccino and Leo P. Gallagher & Son Community Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Tpke., and at 10 a.m. in St. Jude’s Church, 707 Monroe Tpke. Burial follows in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Stratford.
