Kathleen Hustek 79, of Shelton, wife of Robert Hustek for 43 years, died Jan. 28, in Bridgeport Hospital.
Daughter of the late Patrick and Mary (Tynan) Harnedy, she was born April 10, 1932 in New York City and was a Shelton resident for 43 years.
Mrs. Hustek was an employee of the Ella Grasso Center in the payroll department and she helped fundraise for the pool at the center. She was a volunteer at the thrift store on Virginia Avenue in Bridgeport.
An active member of St. Lawrence Church, she served as an Eucharist Minister, and was a member of the Women of St. Lawrence. She also was a teacher’s aide in kindergarten, first grade and second grade at St. Lawrence School; a mentor at Long Hill Elementary School in Shelton, and an honoree member of the Derby Melodeers.
Mrs. Hustek was involved with her husband in the Class Projects at Darthmouth Class of 1951 and founded the Riding Theraphy Program at the Morton Farm for the mentally challenged.
She and her husband would forgo purchasing gifts for each other at Christmas time to buy presents for needy families in Shelton, her family said. She also volunteered to allow children with disabilities to stay in her home when their parents needed to go out of town. She and her husband also enjoyed traveling.
Besides her husband, she is survived by a granddaughter, Rachel Hustek; a daughter-in-law, Bonnie Thompson and her husband Joe; a brother, Patrick Harnedy; two sisters, Helena Viola and Ann Gramila; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two children, James and Beth Ann Hustek; and two sisters, Theresa “Dee Dee” Harnedy, and the late Mary Keeler.
Visiting hours are Monday, Jan. 30, 4-7 p.m., Riverview Funeral Home 390 River Road, Shelton. Services, Friday, Jan. 31, 10 a.m., St. Lawrence Church, 505 Shelton Ave., Shelton.
