Crib tent being recalled.

The state Department of Consumer Protection is alerting consumers about a nationwide voluntary recall of crib tents and play-yard tents sold by five major retailers, including Bed Bath & Beyond and Walmart.

The recall was announced by The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and the five major retailers. Refunds will be made available to consumers who have purchased any of the recalled crib tents or play yard tents made by Tots in Mind, Inc.

According to CPSC, infants and toddlers are at risk of serious injury or death due to strangulation and entrapment by these products, and urges parents and caregivers to stop using these crib tents and play yard tents immediately. Do not attempt to repair these products.

The Shelton Board of Aldermen Tuesday night unanimously approved a $115.5 million city budget for the new fiscal year that will mean a mill rate increase from 18.57 mills to 22.4 mills.

The budget has had a few big changes since the mayor’s proposal in February. It includes a $1 million increase for road work maintenance and $500,000 for the city’s planned single-stream recycling program. The budget gives the Board of Education a $36,600 increase from this year’s budget, giving the Board of Education a $63.7 million, which is less than the school board’s $64.3 million request.

“I hope that people will find that this budget responds to the need to cope with economic conditions,” Anglace said. “We’ve shown we can respond to the situation and we can get through problems, whether perceived or real.”
