Baker named Sacred Heart Academy’s scholar athlete

Sacred Heart Academy senior Caitlin Baker, of Shelton, has been named the Academy’s 2011-12 Scholar Athlete.

Recognized for her cumulative grade-point average, varsity sport participation, community service, as well as her self-discipline and leadership, she will be honored at the 29th Annual Connecticut High School Scholar Athlete Awards Dinner in May.

“Caitlin has been an outstanding member of both the cross country and track teams,” William Sikorsky, Baker’s cross country and indoor and outdoor track coach said.

“She was one of the top seven runners on the cross country team and qualified for the CIAC state tournament.

“She is not only a leader as captain, but a leader in the community having served on many mission trips and service groups.”

Additional accolades for Baker include: National Honor Society, French Honor Society (treasurer), Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society (communications director), captain cross country and track team (captain) and co-president of the Valley United Way Youth Leadership Program.

“Caitlin has maintained honors for all four years and has taken accelerated courses in language, science and history, in addition to reaching the apex in math,” said Patrick McAllister, Baker’s guidance counselor. “She will graduate among an extremely strong class of seniors that typically places 100 percent of its members into competitive four year colleges and universities. I am confident that Caitlin will be well positioned for success.”

Baker is the daughter of Robert and Eileen Baker of Shelton.
